One Family No Stories Sharleen B of Middlefield, Connecticut, was fresh
out of high school in the summer of 1986,
and found herself in the market for a new car to replace the aging Plymouth
Duster she'd been motoring.
At the urging of her boyfriend Ralph, she went to check out the Mercury
Capri. She hadn't planned
to buy a V-8 muscle car, but Ralph pushed her toward one of the two 5.0
models leftover on the lot in late December
at Town & Country Lincoln Mercury in Middletown, Connecticut.
After a test drive, she settled on the Medium Canyon Red Metallic five-speed.
Despite the steep $12,000 sticker price and the fact that
Sharleen's parents were dead-set against the purchase, Sharleen was smitten;
the Capri would be hers.
All these years later, Sharleen still has her Capri, and she still has
Ralph, though now as
her husband. Her beloved Capri has led a fairly charmed life, accumulating
only 66,000 miles in
all its years, and rarely serving as a daily driver. Like most Ford products
painted Canyon Red in 1986, the factory finish didn't hold up,
even with the kind of care this example received. In 2002, it was resprayed
in the factory hues, but is otherwise un-restored and original.
The Capri 5.0 is enjoyed by Sharleen and her Husband, One day their Daughter
will hopefuly take on the Caretaker role. Sharleen purchased this 5.0 new in 1986.
It is Bone Stock with original tires, wires
and spark plugs. The only mod is a
set of flowmasters.
Production figures on
this 1986 Capri 5.0 are 1 of only 94 produced
with a 5.0, 5 spd and no T-Tops.
